Trees and Mycelium:

  • Trees: Imagine the main blockchain (Layer 1) as a large, established tree with a strong trunk and deep roots. It represents the secure foundation of the network but has limited transaction capacity.

  • Mycelium Network: Think of zk-rollups (Layer 2) as a complex network of mycelium, like the hidden network of fungal threads beneath the forest floor. These networks are fast and adaptable, representing the off-chain processing power of zk-rollups.

Exchanging Water:

  • Water: Think of transactions as water molecules. On the main blockchain, each individual transaction needs processing by the entire tree, which can be slow and expensive.

  • Exchange: Zk-rollups bundle many transactions together (imagine droplets merging into larger streams) and process them efficiently off-chain within the mycelium network.

  • Proof of Validity: Instead of sending all the details of each transaction, zk-rollups use complex "zero-knowledge proofs" to the main blockchain. These proofs act like signals between the mycelium and the tree, confirming the validity of the transactions without revealing individual details, much like the mycelium network silently transports water and nutrients throughout the forest floor.

  • Security: Ultimately, the data (like the final water flow) gets recorded on the main blockchain, ensuring security and immutability.
